Biometric Safes for Business – what’s the advantage?

Advantage of Biometric Safes for Business

Biometric locking and safes has been used more and more for business. With the latest bio-metric technology, finger print safes have never been more secure. There are many advantages associated with using bio-metric safes. They are ideal for homes, businesses, and retail stores. By choosing a finger print safe, it basically allows you to open your safe with just the scanning of your finger print. Because of the convenience and security they offer, the advancement in finger scan safe technology has grown expediently.

The Bio-metric standard electronic lock is still powered by batteries but depending on the finger scan safe model, you can decide on what type best suit your needs as they offer different benefits. These bio-metric safes allow you to use your unique finger print scan to gain access and not have to gain access and not have to remember a code. Although the finger scan lock is powered by batteries, some versions offer an emergency override key to gain entry. Some models have the ability to store multiple finger prints, and some bio-metric safes offer functions including audit trail to see who opened the safe, when and what time, etc for total control and giving you added peace of mind in the storage of your valuables.

Bio-metric Finger Scan technology has been around for a long time, and has proven to be an effective reliable security feature. It is now widely used across many industries large and small to provide a secure defense from unauthorised entries to secure areas such as entry to buildings, computer systems, smart phones, and secure door just to mention a few. This is because bio-metrics is believed to make authentication faster, easier and more secure than traditional passwords codes. We are interested in safes and its advantages related to safes, bio-metric safes are quick easy and secure and are fast becoming a popular option in home, office or retail environment.

This blog explains the advantages a bio-metric finger scan safe may offer. Some stand out points are obvious against key or dial combination safes being no more carrying, lost or worse stolen of keys, or remembering codes and awkwardly dialing open of the safe. With a bio-metric safe used in a domestic or commercial environment all you need to do is access the bio-metric scan data by simply letting it scan your unique fingerprint to gain access to the safe allowing you to never have to worry about keys or combinations again.

A very popular bio-metric safe scan option requested in business settings is the multiple user program function which allows an easy and quick finger scan function to add and some many dozen individual fingerprint IDs, effectively given all your staff these restricted access to the safe. How does the security protection on a bio-metric safe stand compare to key or combination locking safe against a burglary attack. my answer to this is again the advantage of not having a key or combination gives the bio-metric safe a clear security advantage immediately. But any high quality safe designed and engineered with exceptional security features as well as high security body and door construction will provide a high level of protection against unlawful entry no matter if the safe has a anti pick safe 6 lever key lock, or high security combination lock any of these locking functions installed onto a high quality safe will be a good choice. But remember with the finger scan safe, usually they will have a combination override code as an emergency entry should a problem occur with the finger scan. So this safety net code need to be kept in a secure place away from the threat of prying eyes. Bio-metric safes are powered by battery so you will need to make sure the battery level always have enough power to make sure the finger print scanner doesn’t stop working. Most high quality bio-metric safes will have a low battery alert when the voltage is low, so you need to replace the battery immediately at this time.

Some security experts would suggest that bio-metric scanners can some times have a false scan, meaning someone whose fingerprint is not stored in the finger print ID is able to open the safe. This is extremely rare if it can happen at all, as the finger print scanners of the modern bio-metric safes have the most advanced technology to avoid this from happening. Aas a professional safe expert myself of more than 35 years, I have never seen this occur. some other security risks mentioned about bio-metric safes is what if non scans occur, being that a finger present that is stored in the scanner but for some reason the scanner may not recognise it. This is extremely rare, but if for some reason this was to happen, it would most likely be because the finger scanner cannot read and define the finger profile correct. Maybe there is dirt or grease on the finger or the scanner itself needs a clean and wipe. But the safes integrity is still maintained if this occurs because it will stay locked at all times until the correct finger print is recognisable to all entry.

A bio-metric safe is a ideal option for today’s fast pace digital world we live in. As we already carry enough passwords and codes around, so with a bio-metric safe option, all you need is your unique finger print profile. With all I have mentioned you can see the advantage in a finger scan safe as long as you choose a high quality safe with good bio-metric finger scan technology.

Chubb Manifoil MK4 Combination Lock

Chubb Mark IV Manifoil Combination Dial Safe Lock

The Chubb Mark IV Manifoil combination dial safe lock has been installed on many Government containers and cabinets, It is a combination dial lock that has been the Australian Governments security standard for many years.

The Manifoil MK4 is a high level security combination dial lock, its lock sophisticated moving parts in the lock mechanism such as a pair of lead shields to prevent X-ray examination. The MK4 lock has the same appearance as a standard combination lock, but the four number combination is always dialed in the same way, five times clock wise to the first number, four anti-clock wise to the second, three clockwise to the third, two anti-clockwise to the fourth then turn clockwise about half a turn until it opens.

Even though there are four numbers in the combination, only three are relevant and settable. The fourth is fixed and will always be 0 for a right-swinging lock or 25 for a top-swinging lock.

You will require a key when securing a combination on an Manifoil mk4 lock. This change key is unique to a Manifoil MK4 and it is inserted through the small covered flop on the back of the lock cover.

A guide is set to follow when changing a Chubb Manifoil MK4 combination lock.

The Chubb Manifoil Dial lock has (4) combination numbers and the first (3) numbers are re-settable by the user whilst the (4) number is fixed and cannot be changed.

To open a Chubb manifoil MK4 lock , dial the lock as follows to open.

A. 5 turns clockwise (right) to the 1st number
B. 4 turns anti-clockwise (left) to the 2nd number
C. 3 turns clockwise (right) to the 3rd number
D. 2 turns anti-clockwise (left) to the 4th number (either 0 or 25 or 75: – see below*)
E. 1 turn clockwise (right) until the dial comes to a stop and the lock open.

*Please note: the 4th (last) number will always be either 0 or 25 or 75. This will depend on the way the Manifoil lock is installed on the safe. Example: 0=L/H 25, 25= bolt down, 75= bolt up.

If whilst dialing numbers you accidentally go past numbers you need to start the entire sequence again. You cannot turn the dial back to the missed number.

To lock a Chubb Manifoil MK4 lock

Rotate the dial (5) times or more anti-clockwise (left).

Changing the combination on a Chubb manifoil MK4 lock

There are (4) numbers in the combination, but only (3) are resettable. The (4) last number is fixed and cannot be changed.

Changing the combination is a similar process to the above opening procedure but with the following exceptions.

when changing the combination the combination is dialled to the alternate second mark at the 11 o’clock position that is used for opening.

A. Always make sure the door is open and the lock is locked in the “OPEN” position.
B. Dial up the existing combination to the 11 o’clock mark (steps A to C and exclude steps D & E)
C. Insert the change key into the rear of the lock and turn 90 degrees anti-clockwise (left) until it clicks
D. Leave the change key in the lock
E. Dial up the new combination to the 11 o’clock position (steps A to C and exclude steps D & E), some numbers are forbidden – see notes below
F. Turn the change key in the rear of the lock 90 degrees clock wise to relock (click noise) and remove and test the manifoil lock many times until the door opened before relocking (dialing to 12 o’clock)

Please note, forbidden or no-go combination for the 3rd number: –

  • *when the 4th (last) number is “0”, avoid numbers between 95 and 10 for the third number
  • *When the 4th (last) number is “25”, avoid numbers between 20 and 35 for the third number
  • *When the 4th (last) number is “75”, avoid numbers between 75 and 85 for the third number.

Common set factory code for 1st use:

  • *40-50-60-ZZ
  • *50-25-50-ZZ
    (*ZZ = fixed 4th number)

EKA CyberLock – The Next Generation in Access Control Locking

EKA Cyberlock Next-Gen Access Control Locking Security

The EKA CyberLock is the next generation in access control security that gives complete secure control and audit reports on all assets.

How can the EKA cyberlock benefit your business?

The EKA CyberLock is an electro-mechanical high security master key system. It combines the features of a conventional proximity or swipe card access control with that of a mechanical master key system. The EKA CyberLock system will allow electronic access control, and it doesn’t matter where the lock is. Because there are no wires between the EKA CyberLock and the management software it is possible for the lock to be just about anywhere. The EKA system has the convenience of a mechanical key system with the feature of giving access authority and tracking ability of an electronic access control system. All combined in the EKA CyberLock. Standard access control method can easily secure an office door but conventional cable access control is not workable for controlling access to remote facilities such as sub stations, data centres, vending machines or rooms of large buildings. EKA Cyber combines the master key power to place a lock on anything to give rigid and track-able access control station to a swipe card function. The EKA Cyber locks is very cost effective as it retrofits into most widely used Australian locks and this may allow you to expand any existing access control system to virtually every door on the premises.

Cyber Keys

The EKA CyberKeys work in the same fashion to a standard key but with one main difference, the CyberKey has no serrated cuts. It is 100% electronic and this makes it programmable and is securely loaded with a unique access profile of the key owner.

CyberLock Cylinders

The EKA CyberLocks are cylinders that are electronic. They are designed and manufactured to the same specifications as many of Australia’s commonly used mechanical lock cylinders which make them cost effective to retrofit in place of existing locks in doors, cabinets, padlocks, industrial machine locks and virtually any other type of mechanical lock. The great advantage of the cyber cylinders is they do not need permanent wired power as all the power needed is stored by the battery in the cyber key. This unique cyber key has the power to store an access profile that includes the authority to open specific cylinders with this permission the cyber cylinder can be opened in the same fashion as any standard key lock.

Cyber Audit Software

The Cyber Audit software is availble in a fully supported cloud format on alternatively in a self managed format. The software contains features to allow configuration and managment of the cyber lock system. this gives the manage user control of all access profiles, users, cyberlocks and auditing facilities.

Cyber communicator function

Because the EKA Cyber system has no wired connection to the cyber lock cylinders, and cyber keys communications are provided by the powerful function of the software and the cyber keys. There is a variety of communications, such as 20 key vaults key pad authorities and even mobile apps that allow communication with cyber keys done via a smartphone and Bluetooth. So to sum up this next generation access control system. The four main components combined from a high security fully featured advanced access control system with exceptional advantage that goes beyond the conventional mechanical master key system being it can be incorporated into virtually anywhere. A lock can be installed such as padlocks, filing cabinets, security safes, and also portable applications or even remote locations, and this all can be activated without cables or power to the lock.
